Quietude

Listen................

Back garden/driveway area - 9/20/13

............. hear that?

Right. Nothing. Quiet.

It's only the second time today I have heard that, the first one being at 12 Noon when the men broke for lunch, and the second one being now, just after they have cleaned up their mess, filled in the giant hole in the street, and left for the weekend.

Look at that pile of dirt and rocks below (ledge broken up into pieces), will you!

Closer up of pile of dirt from hole in street

Below is a close-up of the hole in front of our driveway. It started out at the bottom of the hill and has worked its way up to our spot - right in front of our mailbox!

Below, taken from inside, safe inside away from all the dust and noise - well, not away from the noise because it's a beautiful day and I will not spend the day with my windows closed!

So to make up for all the noise and dust and commotion, not to mention I don't think our mail was delivered today because "the hole" was in front of the box, I needed something sweet...

...so I made these cinnamon buns from a prepared mix I received from that new place, "Prepared Pantry" I told you about recently:

pure sin - homemade cinnamon buns

Oh yeah. There are 4 gone. I had one yesterday right after they came out of the oven and had the glaze drizzled all over them because there was no way, after spending all morning making these babies, that I could wait another second...

yes, I ate one already - I couldn't wait...

...and Paul had one, and I had one for breakfast with my cuppa this morning, as I was listening to the tunes of MACHINE MEN & THEIR MACHINES working in the street... and after I'd finished the first one, I did wait several hours but I had another one around lunchtime.

I am so bad.

It was so good.

The men (there are only 3 of them doing this project) have just cleaned up the street, put all the dirt BACK in the hole (as they do every night), tamped it down with a special machine made for tamping, swept the gravel and dirt and dust over the top and then rolled over it all with a big machine made just for doing that job... and off they went, hopefully for the whole two day weekend.

When I can maybe hear some birds, or some dogs barking off in the distance, or even MY dogs barking which would be a relief right about now. Because from 7 o'clock a.m. on the nose, they are making incredible noise out there. For lunch they take about an hour off... and at 4:15 p.m. or so they leave.

I have my world back, we all have our world back...

my boon companions

...for two days.

I am praying that by the end of next week, it will all be a memory.

Cheers for the workers of the world - how would anything get done without them?

Bex

We can all know every thing without ever knowing why.
It's in every one of us, by and bye.
