I am not well-schooled in politics or government or economics. But I just listened to our (yes "our" - not "mine" but "our") President lay it out on the line what is going to take place here in this country if the lawmakers (and I use that term lightly because they are more like "law-scrappers" if you ask me) don't get their overpaid acts together here real soon and raise the debt limit so the U.S. can pay its bills (past racked-up bills, not future bills).

As the President explained, if we have a "government shut-down" (like what is going on right at this minute), a lot of people are put on furlough with no pay, but there are still things being done like Social Security payments for all of us who depend on that money to survive, however, if we have an "economic shut-down" (which is what will happen if we do not raise our debt limit and soon!), then NO SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS WILL GO OUT ON TIME! (I have to wonder - if SS payments don't go out, do they EVER get paid back or does the recipient just lose out on that month's income?)

I know I've been a little lax in paying attention to this debacle that's been going on in our Capitol, but OK, now that I understand what's what a little bit better, I feel that this is the least I can do to alert others as to what may very well happen to us all in the near future - NO SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS! And that includes disability Social Security, as well... for people who are not over 65, so it will affect a LOT of people, if the debt ceiling is not raised soon... very soon.

I guess what we need to do is contact our representatives, our congressmen and women and our senators, and let them know that they have to put aside their incredibly huge egos and stubbornness and do what WE ARE PAYING THEM GOOD MONEY TO DO! Now.

I do not invite a lot of back and forth here on politics.

This stuff goes way beyond party politics - this is about men and women who don't seem to be in contact with reality and who are just playing games with you and me as the game pieces... we are being screwed into the ground here and they just don't get it. And I might mention that if their incomes were to be cut off suddenly, all the benefits eliminated, I think things might be different, but no, THEY DO NOT SUFFER the same consequences as we, the people, do in this case. And why is that, I wonder? There are some flaws in our government, for sure.

So this is just my way of imparting what I've just learned to anyone who may not have heard or has not been listening. If you get a chance, listen to President Obama today when he explains this matter from Rockville, MD.
