Sending a Message to the Universe
Oh great!
Not very original, I know, but it's what's going through my brain over and over after seeing a weather forecast for this upcoming holiday weekend. This tells the whole sordid story:
We are up the East Coast of the country, in Massachusetts. According to the weatherman on TV, this Tropical Storm Arthur may turn into a Hurricane and will clip the entire East Coast of the country on its way up through the coast of Maine. That includes us.
And all this on a weekend when having a nice 3-day weekend is imperative to people like Paul who will be spending two stints down at the harbor selling his lobsters on the holiday, Friday. He normally only sells in the afternoon down there, but this year we made up signs saying he'd be open on the 4th from 10-12 and from 2-5 for lobster sales. People with whom he spoke at last week's Farmer's Market told him that was great, they love to get lobsters on the morning of the 4th.
Now if we have a hurricane that day, things might not go so swimmingly for Paul. Drat! Mother Nature is not getting any brownie points from me!
This appeared in the local newspaper one year... Paul out in a storm getting lobsters for someone he promised them to:
Not fun!
Being a fishing family, we yearn for calm seas and as little wind as possible. Wind is our enemy. A hurricane is pure hell. It means moving boats down-harbor, pulling the dinghy out of the water possibly, so it won't break free and disappear and sink. Not to mention keeping an eye on the big lobster boat, a significant investment, to be sure it doesn't break its mooring and take off down the harbor on its own. It's done THAT before! Remember when it broke free and ended up across the harbor at the Corinthian Yacht Club banging on the rocks where Paul had to row across and rescue it?

What a nail-biter that was!
This could be the situation soon here! Fort Sewall in Marblehead during another storm:
We do not want a hurricane coming here! Do you hear that, Mother Nature? Are you listening? I am putting this message out to the Universe in hopes that someone or something will hear me! I am pleading...
No Hurricane!
The Sea can be a very large obstacle, at times:
Little Paul in his boat "Bollocks!" and the wide and angry sea.
Calm. We want calm.
I have been typing this blog entry while watching women's tennis at Wimbledon. I am rooting currently for Angelique Kerber who is playing Maria Sharapova. Kerber won the first set and is now behind in the second set. Go Kerber!
That's all I can muster now. I hope anyone who is in the path of this latest storm comes through it unscathed, including us. That is my wish for this week.
