From late snowfall to sun-drenched beach pics

After a whole week here of warmer temps, even a day or two when I could bring my chair out on the front porch and enjoy the air, now we are having snow - again!!!

If you can't really tell it's snowing in these photos, take my word for it. It's been coming down, sometimes even heavily, since I got up this morning, which was much earlier than usual for me - 7 a.m.!

If you'll notice in the photo below, there is one sign that spring is here...

... the birdbath is showing and is full of water!

Comparing it to earlier shots of the same spot:

But really, this new snow today isn't sticking anywhere. I am not worried. I just wish I had more evidence that it's spring than a cold looking birdbath!

For anyone who is not on Facebook and has not seen this photo I stuck in for Throw-Back Thursday ("TBT") this week, this is what I'll hold onto in my brain... better days, warmer days, sunnier days, skinnier days!!!!

Bex & Sandy Freeto on Devereux Beach, Marblehead, MA - 1966

This was taken by someone from the local (Salem) Evening News one day in September 1966, 3 months after I'd graduated from High School. I do remember the day it happened. The photographer went up and down the beach asking pairs of young ladies, in "bikinis," to pose in different positions for a spread they were doing for the News. I don't think it ever occurred to us that we were being used... in a bad way... in fact we were all quite excited about it.

For some reason, after it was printed, I didn't save it, but my mother did. Many years later... many decades later actually, I got this in the mail from my mother saying she'd saved it all those years and I'd better have it now.

There were quite a few other ladies included in this spread, but I didn't want to show them for obvious reasons. My friend, Sandy Freeto, in this picture got included though... hope she doesn't mind!

I do remember one thing about this time period. We were sun worshipers back then... didn't realize the damage all that sun exposure could do to us, and I hope the young people these days will take heed when they are told to keep covered up or use strong sunblock, because I have seen close-up the horrors of skin cancer and it's not a pretty sight, nor is it any fun! And it all starts with the sun exposure we get as young people.

Well, that's done. I thought I had posted the last of any snow falling from the skies this season... today's is a big surprise but it's quite a fine snow now so maybe it will stop soon...

Cheers,

Bex

I think I could turn and live awhile with the animals...
They are so placid and self-contained,
I stand and look at them sometimes half the day long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied... not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.
