David had a blast at the Pacific Science Center spy camp. He loved the games, the story through line (Who is the mole among us), the daily projects like fingerprints, and visiting the exhibits. The first day he came home and said, my friend Gabe. I said, oh was there someone you know in your group. No, his new friend Gabe. He immediately made four best buds. He had trouble getting up in time and came home tired, but he cannot wait to go back.

Rose did not love her Seattle Children's Theater camp. She did not make new friends, and in fact, often felt at odds with the other people in her class: they didn't listen to her ideas, they didn't know how to do X, they were much better than her at Y. She admitted that she was in the middle of the pack and didn't like it. She was also at the young end of the group 6th-10th graders. I'm sad she didn't have fun because she's really interested in drama, but I think it's fine that she had to navigate these waters.

This was my week to write poetry all day, every day. Right. I did actually write at least a half an hour every day, which made me realize I could be doing that on non-camp days as well. What I did: drive to and from the Seattle Center in awkward traffic, manage the children's horrific squabbling, work for pay 7 hours plus commuting, jazzercise, go out dancing thanks to the grandparents, make a grapefruit and avocado salad, host dear friends who have just moved to Seattle. So, it wasn't perfect, but I have 10 more pages of freewriting than I did last week.
