my holiday of rings

Grandma Adele had a ring on every finger. On this finger the prize winning artist from Navajo country, on that, a tall cocktail ring of semi-precious jewels. In the past few years, I've decided to follow suit. But, you can't wear rings dancing, which is most of my socializing, because they bonk people. Especially my gigantic glittering rings, so I grabbed the chance this holiday full of events to fill them with rings.

Most of my family dresses casually for Thanksgiving. Not me. I was in golds and greens including a lovely shimmering abalone shell and something that looks like a green crystal rock face.

Saturday night I got a chance to go to the musical Come From Away again, which was fantastic, and I added some purple and green beaded flowers I got for a 1.00 each at the Huntington library gift shop, and the pearls my mother's oldest friends gave me for college graduation. Even better, we went with Ellen and Wendy, who have lived in/were born in Newfoundland, so we had the inside scoop on the musical. They thought the accents were perfect, the music rousing, and the jokes hilarious. So did I.

By Sunday afternoon the car knew its own way to the Seattle Center. I was back for the Nutcracker. And come on, if the girl a few seats away can wear shimmering red velvet, I can wear tourmaline and a couple small diamonds. We had a great time at the nutcracker. Mom's friend, a violinist in the orchestra, got us discounted tickets and afterwards he gave us a tour of backstage. We got to see the mouse costumes and the rigging close up. We even got to stand in the conductor's spot and walk on the stage. It was a magical, glittering holiday.
