I'm under assault from the irritating W32.Swen.A@mm worm. For some reason, it's got something about yahoo account, so if I leave it for half an hour then it fills up with copies of this (154kb at a time) worm. I'm trying to actually be constructive at work today, but I have to keep stopping to empty the bulk folder so that I don't go over the mailbox limit. :(

Anyway, more positive things: my Mount Everest of old paperwork is slowly being eroded (or, perhaps, like the Himalayas is slowly sinking under its own weight). I'm confident that I may actually see my desk today. Stranger things have happened.

Having a website can lead to strange effects. For a couple of years, I taught in a high school in Guyana (that's in South America, for those of you who don't know), and since I've put my website I've started to get an increasing trickle of emails from ex-students. It's both gratifying and a little off-putting. You see, as a teacher you put on this who facade of responsibility, seriousness, and authority, which is all totally undermined by having a website and a journal. Of course, they all still refer to me as "Doctor Samphire", which is a nice ego boost.

Finished reading the three books of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series that have been published so far. I'm not normally a fan of long series of high fantasy, but Martin is so good, I can't help but be swept along. I thoroughly recommend these books to all.
