I didn't get much revising of the YA novel done yesterday. Steph and I met up in a cafe at lunchtime, then the evening just drifted away. Today's been much better though. I sat in the library for about 45 mins at lunch then I've spent a couple of hours this evening working on it too. I've managed almost 30 pages today, mainly trying to plug the "plot-question" holes that a few people have pointed out. To tell you the truth, I don't think any of the problems were major ones, and if the fixes slow the story down or make it awkward I will probably just abandon them.

For the most part I'm really pleased with the first draft of the novel as I read through it. The prologue and the first chapter were a little rough, and there are some potholes along the road, but otherwise a hell of a lot of this is of publishable quality after first draft. I love it when that happens, when there are whole pages with no more than a single line edit needed. To me it says that the story is working well. I actually put a lot of effort into getting the first draft right, because I detest revising work, and it's satisfying when it works out. No doubt I'll find something that'll dent my overconfidence before long, but confidence is a precious commodity when you're a writer, and I'll take it while I've got it.
