Well, I got another article published today, and it got chopped off pretty good.

I think I wrote the story at about 600 words, by providing some context, history, etc., but apparently the Daily Herald likes only to print the brief-type news.

I'm not going to be able to use this for a clip, but what the hell... it never gets old seeing your name in print.

The bastards also sabotaged my lead... Dammit.

Here's a copy and a link:

Field’s to open store at Bolingbrook site

Marshall Field’s announced plans Tuesday to open its first new full-line department store in almost eight years in spring 2007 for Bolingbrook.

The planned 180,000-square-foot store will anchor The Promenade development and will be at the intersection of Boughton Road and Interstate 355, near the confluence of Interstates 55 and 355. The opening will mark Marshall Field’s 18th location in Illinois.

Construction of the two-level store is slated to begin this fall as part of the second phase of the development, which will cover more than 121 acres. The first phase, which includes a 310,000-square-foot IKEA, is to be completed this fall.

“Bolingbrook is an area of great growth and development, so it’s perfect for us to expand our brand,” said Jennifer McNamara, a Marshall Field’s spokeswoman.

The store will be about 15 miles from Field’s 380,000-square-foot store in Oak Brook.

The announcement comes at a time of uncertainty for the 153-year-old department store chain, after parent May Co. and Federated Department Stores Inc. announced plans to merge in February.

Industry analysts speculated that Federated might change some Field’s stores to the Macy’s banner. Officials from Marshall Field’s said the company is continuing to execute its strategy independent of merger talks. A spokeswoman from Federated declined to comment.

Kim Picciola, retail analyst with Morningstar in Chicago, said she expects Federated was involved in the expansion decision.

“Most retail markets are already saturated. Any new market where a mall is going up may be an opportunity for a department store to expand,” Picciola said.
