I'm a web developer for NOVICA. I'm fascinated by languages, even though I only speak English and a little Spanish. I can count in Korean and have numerous language and linguistics books. I'm living within walking distance of CSUN where I share an apartment with my girlfriend and 2 cats. I'm happy. I write sporadically (I really need to finish that short story), with every intention of making a living at it at an undisclosed point in the future. I taught physics at Emperor's College Winter Term 2008. I love games and stories and music and computers and science and "and." I drink my coffee 100% black 80% of the time and 80% black 20% of the time. Also, there are other things. 7332 42

Inappropriate Behavior

Derek James made an entry yesterday called America in Therapy. The entry was interesting, I was even more intrigued by it's relevance. I read two stories recently where psychiatrists did considerably more harm than good.

Monday I read a story in F&SF, "Ultraviolet Night," by Jim Young. I didn't much care for this story. Supposedly, Young is expanding this story into a novel. It reads like the sketch of a novel and not like a good short story. That said, there was a character being experimented on in the story, and the people interacting with him seemed determined to fix his problems by making him think he was Jesus or Hitler...ended badly.

Tuesday night I read a story on Sci Fiction that I loved: "Inappropriate Behavior," by Pat Murphy. The story was rich and complex. The main character was well developed, extremely odd and quite loveable. A major plot point was a psychiatrist whose self importance blinds him...

On a totally unrelated note. I noticed on monday that when I'm published, my novels will be on the shelf below Robert Jordan, at least in Barnes and Nobel...

all for now.
