When a Gaffe is Not a Gaffe

The BBC has an article on President Bush's latest "gaffe". Speaking of terrorists, the President said:

"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people - and neither do we."

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but how is this a gaffe? The 9/11 Commission Report called the attacks "a failure of our imagination". Part of the government's job is to think of new ways for terrorists to harm the American people...so they can prevent it.

The White House Press Secretary said he mis-spoke, which I think was a mistake. The statement makes perfect sense, and I think it makes those media outlets that are giving it so much attention look like fools.

UPDATE: Jacob Weisberg at Slate has predictably and idiotically named this "the Bushism of the Year".
