Jane Goodall: Unscientific Nutjob?
Previous Entry :: Next Entry

Jane Goodall has probably done more to increase our understanding of our nearest relative species, chimpanzees, than any other researcher.

Okay, so why in the fuck is she endorsing a book about bigfoot? About Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, she has this to say:

Jeff Meldrum's book 'Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science' brings a much needed level of scientific analysis to the Sasquatch - or Bigfoot - debate. Does Sasquatch exist? There are countless people - especially indigenous people - in different parts of America who claim to have seen such a creature. And in many parts of the world I meet those who, in a matter-of-fact way, tell me of their encounters with large, bipedal, tail-less hominids. I think I have read every article and every book about these creatures, and while most scientists are not satisfied with existing evidence, I have an open mind.

Let's go through this a bit at a time. "Much needed"? When need to be spending time actually looking at the Sasquatch issue? Huh?

You would think someone who has devoted their life to preserving apes would think there were more important things to spend your time researching...apparently not.

And she meets people who claim to have seen bigfoot. Wonderful. That's very scientific.

She has an open mind. That's wonderful. It's important to keep an open mind, but not so open that random piles of shit and nonsense plop themselves right in.

Good fucking grief. I just lost a huge amount of respect for someone I thought was a respectable researcher.
