Eric Mayer Byzantine Blog Probably the only vaguely interesting thing about me is that with my wife, Mary Reed, I co-author the John the Eunuch mystery series set in sixth century Constantinople. But that doesn't stop me from dwelling here on the boring minutiae of the rest of my life, present and past, along with the occasional word about writing. |

2004-01-05 6:33 PM Kink in the Headlines After bubbling under last week while receving a CBE, Kink Ray Davies is on the charts with a bullet. He managed to get shot in the leg while chasing a a purse snatcher. (And no, for those of you whose only exposure to the Kinks was "Lola" it wasn't Ray's purse. That was an act.)
Here's an article in Eonline. There's a better article in Chartattack but the photo makes him look like an 85 year-old kewpie doll. More from the BBC. Wow. Ray in the headlines. Never thought I'd see it. Needless to say he had to practically get killed. The Kinks are the Rodney Dangerfields of rock n roll. When Mary first read the headline to me, before immediately noting Ray hadn't been badly hurt, I had a flashback to John Lennon's death. It's easy to feel like you know artists and to mourn their loss more deeply than makes any sense. Mary had earlier pointed out to me an article, "Ray Davies", from 2000, from Salon. A terrific appreciation of the Kinks. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
