That is what I would call myself. Slackademic applies to me on a few levels. The Church of the Subgenius espouses the philosophy of "slack." While in no way am I affiliated with the Subgeniuses, I happen to be a subgenius with an IQ of 135 give or take 50 points. Slack also applies to me in that I am kind of a slacker. I procrastinate, of course, I am in no way unique in that aspect. However I am technically part of the "Slacker" generation. I spent 10 years getting my Bachelors, and worked part time most of the way, and flunked many courses, but spent lots of time in coffeehouses singing, writing poetry and not doing my homework. Also I can use the term to apply to my poetry. I am a slam poet who also takes Academic Poetry writing classes. Actually, slam is fairly recent for me as I have only been doing it regularly for less than 2 years. I have taken academic classes on and off for about 6 years. I have been in coffeehouse open mikes for 10 years. I have been writing for 16 years. Most of my early work are song lyrics. I used to write songs and play guitar. I stopped because I could only go so far on my guitar as I wasn't a skilled musician, so after about 20 or 30 songs that I liked, I moved back to poetry, where the only instrument I need is pen and paper, and a voice when performing it. Slackademic. I guess that could apply to Jeffrey McDaniel, Ellen Maybe, Hal Sirowicz, Henry Taylor, Justin Chin, Tracie Morris, Saul Williams, Daphne Gottleib or any poet who seeks or has credibility in both slam and academic journals.
Well that is my entry for today.
