Mood:
and you're not!

I was reading my friend Rick's journal and he is in a quandry over fragments. I happen to think that some language poetry is just hyper-experimentation, but so are cut-ups. Still some of it is interesting to read, I also doubt that it will change my life, or anyone else's. Accessability in poetry is becoming more of a mainstream idea. Besides Slam, there is the Stand-up Poetry movement espoused by Charles Harper Webb. Yet, I find some so called "language" poems to be interesting and even fun. Creeley, some of Armantrout, and others. I disagree that closure is a bad thing, unless it is trite and takes away from the impact of the poem or story or film. I am a firm believer that all schools of poetry are worth studying, even devouring. Those that turn their backs on one style of poetry just because-- is limiting their horizons. Sure they may be good at one kind of poetry, but they will be doing the same over and over. I think it is best to try a little bit of everything. Language Poetry, Formal Poetry, Slam Poetry, etc... What have you got to lose?
