Next semester I think I am going to go back to a reading intensive class. I tried an alternative approach using slam poetry, and film. I think what I will do is make each student responsible for approximately 10 pages of reading in the textbook- either a chapter or an essay. So with 20 students that will cover 10 weeks of material for 20-30 minutes. Then we will read together in class one particular essay. Thus we will have read 300 pages of a given text book in ten weeks. The other five weeks will be dedicated to peer reviews, presentations, conferences, etc... |
