Aug22- Dec 9, finals Dec 10-15 8/22-24: week 1: Introductory, Diagnostic, Blackboard, Syllabus Please read Chapter Two- Getting Started pg28-48 8/29-31Week 2: Chapter 5- Please read pg 100-125 for Monday, and 125-152 for Wednesday. Come to class with a short proposal for one of the ten projects explaining your target audience, authorial intention, and purpose. Week 3 Monday 9/5 Labor day, no class: Grammar Review: Commas, Colons and Semi Colons Wednesday (9/7) Please have read Chapter 3- Reading Like a Writer pg. 50-74,Grammar Review: Commas, Colons and Semi Colons Week 4 9/12-14 Monday- Peer Review and Revision workshop, bring rough draft to class. Grammar homework due. Wednesday Paper 1 due- Reflective Essay! Bring folder with roughdraft, Peer Reviews self evaluation and coverletter informing me of your strengths and weaknesses. Unit 2 Writing to Inform : Week 5-7 9/19-10/5 9/19 9/21 9/26 9/28 10/3 10/5 Unit 3 Writing to Analyze: Week 8-10 10/10-10/26 10/10 10/12 10/17 10/19 10/24 10/26 Unit 4 Writng to Evaluate Week 11-14 (10/31-11/16 10/31 11/2 11/7 11/9 11/14 11/16 11/21 11/28 11/30 12/5 12/7 12/12 or 14--FINAL EXAM Unit 5 Writing To Solve Problems Week 15-Final 11/21 11/23 No class for Thanksgiving Break 11/28, 30 12/5, 7 Paper five peer review, due on 12/7 12/12 or 14 (Final Exam) Writing to Convince/Persuade. Convince me that you are ready for English 111, and tell me what grade you believe you should get in this class, provide the evidence based on your portfolio and syllabus. Reflect, inform, analyze, evaluate, problem solve, and persuade. expressing your opinion in an academic setting, and informing your reader are the two primary goals of the writing segment of this course Your essays will be graded on technical convention efficiency: Grammar, punctuation, appearance, length, citation, documentation, effective structure, organization etc. Also Content: Originality, substance, flow, style, evidence, following directions of assignment, etc. Both are graded 50/50% per formal writing assignment. A B on content and a C on Technical might average out to an 80 or a B-. |
