Respect is not automatic. It is earned, especially by going above and beyond the call of duty.

When you consistantly do go above and beyond, and still are shat upon by those who don't but still have to show their superiority over you, it's hard to continue breaking your back over the grindstone for them.

If you still feel the need to treat someone as expendable, replaceable fodder, don't expect a lot of respect from them.

And if you expect to micromanage employees, don't expect a lot of independant thinking for you to overrule.
