As driving, I saw a hat prominantly placed in the back of a Ford Contour, with the embroidered logo and phrase "G.A.P.: God Answers Prayers".

I was stuck behind the car for a bit. I guess the placement of the hat had part of its intended effect, since I stared at it contemplating.

But I wondered what kind of person feels its necessary to issue forth such a proclaimation, and what did they really think people were going to take away from reading this. I can at least understand the "WWJD?" because people are trying to inspire a code of behavior, which at its best, is a positive thing. At its worst, it's "G.A.P.". GAP strikes me as a poor pop-psychology version of spirituality, devoid of any real meaning.

GAP has got all the arrogance of "God's paying attention to me in particular, 'cause I'm special", while broadcasting it in the back of the car makes it worse. And I have to wonder about someone who feels it's important enough to have a hat like that, but not important enough to wear. I suppose they could just be storing it there between wearings.

Who thinks they are so important that God should be paying attention to their particular needs? I'd kinda like to see him help out some other places, like the Middle East, or the Sudan first. I can wait. I feel like i'm doing pretty good by comparison.

I guess it's the trivialization of spirituality that gets me.
