A disturbing Pew Research Center Report titled Foreign Policy Attitudes Now Driven by 9/11 and Iraq Eroding Respect for America Seen as Major Problem" recently reported that 43% of Americans believe that torture is "often" or "sometimes" justified against suspected terrorists. And that figure goes up to 53% if you thought it was the right decision to go into Iraq, and 58% if you support Bush.

Suspected terrorists. Not "convicted terrorists" or even "terrorists", but just suspected.

This is the same public that by 56% believes "it is not necessary for the average person to give up civil liberties in order to curb freedom."

So, I guess it's OK to torture suspected terrorists, because it can't happen here, right? It's certainly not going to happen to you, or anyone you know right?

Sometimes humanity disgusts me.

Well, actually, most of the time
