In the cycle of aging and maturing, you usually go from thinking your parents know everything, to thinking they don't know a thing, to thinking they know more than you thought.

In contrast, you go from thinking your managment knows a lot of things about the job, to thinking they don't know anything, settling on they know enough to desperately cling on to their jobs, no matter what the cost to the company, and certainly no matter what the cost you your sanity.

I've been at stage three for my job for quite a while now, but now I've come to the conclusion that in nearly every respect managment has moved into directions that are counter to everything I want or believe should be done in project managment. And in spite of them saying words like "team", "core values", and "employee-oriented" what they mean is "think what you want, we'll just ignore you if you say anything."

When you get to the point where you start to disagree with every call that is being made by the higherups, then there's certainly a problem.

So, I'm sitting here in hour 15, trying not to strangle myself with my mouse, and trying to take solace in the fact that this is nothing new, and that there's millions of people in the exact same boat, many of which are in much less stable jobs, and at lower salaries. However, that doesn't seem to comfort me tonight.

If I'm lucky, I will dream again of Joss Whedon driving my family to a vacation spot in a Ford hatcback, while telling us about Serenity and avoiding increasingly dangerous sets of wooden medieval car traps. Man that guy can be funny, intelligent, and drive!
