Some people are cheek kissers, or handshakers, or awkward stand-asiders.

Me, I'm a hugger.

I guess it's an inherited family thing, but I just think it's nice to give family and close friends a warm, everything's-going-to-be-ok, hug. Men, women, children. Doesn't matter. It's a way of expressing deep affection and friendship, in a way that's generally OK to just about anyone.

A handshake seems too formal for me, though appropriate with people you only know formally, and the whole kissing thing is too intimate for me, even it it's normal in the rest of the world.

So a good, firm, but short, hug, delivered with sincerity, hopefully makes them, and makes me feel better about humanity.

That's probably part of it; I probably need it as much as I give it.

I still think things would be better if people hugged each other more.
