The worst president this country has had in half a century is going to be appointing not one, but two Supreme Court Justices.

That is going to cause more long-term destruction to this country than Katrina did.

I didn't think this week could get any worse than the hurricane. Watching the devistation and suffering, then the incompetant response by the Federal Government, it really put a damper on my week.

That got followed by some bad personal events in the lives of some of my friends and friends of my family. My in-laws best friends are from Louisiana and Alabama, and they have numerous relatives who lost everything to Katrina. Another good friend is going through some tough job and personal issues, and another just lost a relative after a long illness.

I'm pretty much ready to put this week into the books and try to forget it altogether. As if I could, since the repercussions of a week like this are measured in decades.

My heart goes out to everyone suffering this week, from friend to stranger. I've never been one for boundless optimism, or even qualified optimism, but I have to cling on to the remote hope that things will work themselves out somehow, right?
