This year, 5 vehicles, mostly home-brewed from colleges, drove autonomously 132 miles across the open desert, across bridges and the like completeing DARPA's Grand Challenge.

Not that I'm big on more ways to develop lethal killing machines, even if sometimes they are neccessary, but it's pretty amazing that 5 groups of people managed this feat of driverless navigation, especially when last year no vehicle went past 7 miles.

The inginuity, creativity and brainpower needed to pull a feat like this off is astounding.

Hats off to all the teams.
