off the hook

So let me confess..I'm Lutheran. I go to church now pretty nuch every Sunday, Mia goes to Sunday school, and I get emotionally stirred by the service.

On the other hand, I also get emotionally stirred by like huge rocks and trees and oceans, or 10 pound chocolate bars for that matter.

Several disparate ideas combined into a religious revelation tonight regarding where god is found as I was lap swimming at the local rec center.

Idea number 1:

A published writer in my writer's group was giving a pep talk and mentioned something to the effect that all the writing and ideas have been done. The only thing we have to bring to the table of value is our own unique voice or perspective on the stories we all already know.

Idea number 2:

The female pastor at my church was talking about how some people feel God or divinity out in the mountains or in the forest. Then she said "But I've never seen any tree at someone's bedside." She went on to explain that she thinks God is in people and our connectedness with eachother.

So if you put idea number 1 and idea number 2 together, not that I'm the first person to do so, you could get the idea that divinity is in us and all we really have to offer the world is our own unique take on things.

whoooo. That's good to know. I was all worried about how I was going to top mother theresa and all that.

nice to know I'm off the hook.
