naoto's back

Oh what a relief it is.

So I'm going out with a MIIS friend while he gets rid of some of his jet lag by sleeping early with girl2.

I had another "outsider in my own country" moment today. I was at the parent's meeting at the Japanese Saturday school and was surrounded by all Japanese parents except for Beth.

We had speeches from school administrators, admonishments from teachers, and I even had to stand up and introduce myself in Japanese.

Yikes!

Naoto was supposed to be there doing this, of course, but as he got back just in the nick of lateness, I filled in.

The cutest thing from this past week, however, was girl1 giving her mother's day speech at Kohitsuji preschool. She said:

"My mother's name is Kirsten. She likes to work. I like reading books with her."

Which is better than some of the other mothers, whose children stated they "liked presents" or "liked cleaning."

I suppose girl1 chose "work" because this past week with Naoto gone on short notice, I had to kid wrangle as well as do my part time job as a TOEFL rater. They got a lot of "shhh, mommy's working" thrown at them this week.

But now Naoto's back. Sigh of relief.
