2008 Books #9 Wildwood Dancing

I enjoyed Juliet Marillier's Seven Waters Trilogy, so I picked up Wildwood Dancing based on that and the beautiful cover by Kinuko Y Craft.

It's billed as YA, but I think that's because the protagonists are younger, and because the danger and romance is toned down a bit. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known the difference.

If I tell you this is the story of the Twelve dancing princesses with vampires and the frog prince thrown in, it wouldn't really do it justice. Please believe me, somehow it all works, and its set in Transylvania!

While I like the fact that the heroine, Jena, makes mistakes and isn't perfect, the fact that everybody is in love with her because she's Spunky! and Educated! felt a little annoying to this jaded reader.

But I do recommend it.
