2008 Books #25 Endless Blue

I really really liked the Ukiah Oregon series by Wen Spencer.

But it had been a while since I'd read anything of hers. So somewhere I saw a recommendation for this more recent book of hers, Endless Blue, a science fiction fantasy set in the far future.

Hmmmmm. I was a little disappointed. She gets mad props for the creation of a very strange bubble world complete with aliens and weird physics and floating chunks of rock in the sky.

And I immediately felt connected to her main characters, who are cool.

But. It was very hokey. One of the main characters, an adapted Human who was supposed to exhibit all these "cat" like behaviors read to me just like any old angsty human.

And another main character, a supposedly suicidal Russian spaceship captain, has one or two painful memories come up and all of a sudden he's all cured?

And the female main character hears the voice of god after a little mediation?

Come on! They were so cool, why make everything so easy and pat and hokey for them?
