Celtic Thunder

Have you guys seen Celtic Thunder ? Here's the youtube connection.

I'm watching it tonight because I flipped on the tv while waiting for Naoto to finish putting the girls to sleep.

And now I'm caught. I'm strangely alternatively fascinated, riveted, horrified, embarassed, and incredulous watching this.

It's five "celtic" singers (an opera, pop, traditional ballad, broadway, and fourteen year old) who are male, each with their own personality and "look".

And the show is like crazy, in your face, let me showcase these hot guys and tweak every stereotypical romanticized Irish/Scottish button you might have.

I mean, oh my goodness, it's terrifying. And it's terrifying that I can't stop watching it.

It reminds me of the young, male idols in Japan and the shows that are basically a hormone vehicle for young girls starring members of "idol stables." And I remember scoffing at them and thinking how obvious it was that these shows were pandering to the sexual fantasies of young and middle aged women in Japan.

But I guess I could scoff and jeer because the buttons those Japanese idols were aimed at weren't MY buttons. (not into the lithe, androgynous feminine beauty. Give me dark and male and brooding any day)

But Celtic Thunder has got it down. I mean, for gosh sakes, the opening number has all five guys singing a traditional-sounding ballad about the sounds of drums clad in BLACK LEATHER DUSTERs. (can anyone say "celtic vampire?") With crimson clouds blown across screens in the background.

Yikes! Help me. I've fallen into some middle-aged broad hormone pit and I can't get up!
