Father of twins and novelist/filmmaker/musician
People complain about musicals.
Nobody just stops in the street
I say you know the wrong people.

2005-03-28 5:15 AM Not leaving well enough alone Being relatively new to the short-story and poetry thing—I've previously been a "novels, films, and music" guy—I'm finding it interesting how much opportunity exists to indulge my compulsive nature.
I sent a story off to an anthology in December. Haven't heard back yet. What have I been doing for the last two days? Revising it. The universe would not recover its balance and move forward until the glob of exposition in the second act had been filed down and reset. Then there were a few little bits of dialogue that didn't contribute to plot and character simultaneously. And a few places where narrative description of the action could be implied instead in dialogue. The sentence containing the final "punch" clearly needed a polish. I think deadline writing is healthier. There's less time for obsessive rewording during your 4:00 AM baby shift, when you could be watching the director's commentary on BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA instead. Short story writers—you too?
