2005-05-19 4:04 PM Get XTreme! Get Race Guard! We finally got DirecTV because even daytime TV will do when you need a break from having all-day conversations with 5-month-olds. So most mornings, I'm staring at stuff I never bothered with before and filling in my Deep Space Nine gaps. (And admiring Armin Shimerman's acting more than I did the first time around.)
This is apparently one of those "is it just me?" issues, because Google didn't turn up anyone saying the same thing--but is anybody else taken aback by the Right Guard XTreme commercial showing a bunch of scrawny white guys (representing deodorant) fending off a bunch of muscular black guys (representing bad smells)? Are the muscular black guys celebrities, and I just don't know it, and that's all the agency had to work with? Or something? Pop culture's never been one of my burning interests; maybe there's something else going on here besides overt racism. There is, right?
