2003-08-23 4:41 PM Beta Test a New JournalScape Feature for me! A lot of us have had frustrating experiences where we lose a journal entry that we are typing. Either, the browser crashes or we click a link, it opens in the window we are typing in and when we click back the textarea is empty. It pisses us all off.. This isn't a problem with JournalScape, it's a problem with most web browsers (newer versions of Netscape finally figured out it was a problem).
So, I'd like to introduce Entry AutoSave! I can't promise that it's working concretely just yet (I finished it just a few minutes ago), but there should be a working autosave feature. Basically, at 2 minute intervals (and when the browser leaves to another URL) some javascript code will save your entry, subject, mood, time, date, etc into some cookies. When you go back to the add/edit page (and you have those cookies) a new link will appear just above the big entry text area called "Restore Autosave". If you don't see that link, reload the page and it should show up. Click the link and a pop up will appear verifying that you want to restore the data. It has to verify because it will wipe out whatever you've already typed just in case you are typing and you acccidentally click it, I don't want it to wipe out what you did in the last 2 minutes. Give it a try, let me know how it works for you (if it works, if it doesn't work as you expect, if you have suggestions). Please tell me anything you have on your mind. I've got it auto saving every 2 minutes right now, is that too long? too short? I'm open to everything you have to say about it. :) Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
