Today is the first day where I have absolutely no ties to the United States Armed Forces. On September 10, 1995 I signed up for the United States Marine Corps. Since all I have is an eight year contract, that ends last night at 11:59.

I am glad and I feel fortunate to have gotten out when I did. The world is a sick and crazy place, so I feel fortunate to have never had to exchange bullets with someone else.

It's kind of amazing how far I think I have progressed. I went from Marine to Pacifist in the span of 2 or 3 years. Those are polar opposites from each other. I guess the genesis of my transition was listening to political music and reading "Johnny Got His Gun." It's kind of like, the more you know about the way this country works and runs, the less likely you are able to feel any kind of need for a war.

more to come later
