Last week, I had a good time with Anya as she celebrated her Spring Break. It was an overall great week, one that was filled with a lot of "Friends Time."

It started off with a visit from Jace and Ryan, who stayed at our place for the first weekend of the break. On that Saturday, we went down to Town Lake and rented a couple of canoes for an hour or so. Having canoed the week prior, Anya and I did a pretty good job at getting ourselves up and down the river. Jace and Ryan, on the other hand, couldn't seem to get the hang of it. So we headed back a little early and hung out at Zilker Park for a bit.

We tried seeing a movie later that night, but got there just as they were putting the "sold out" sticker in the window. So opting out of seeing another movie, we decided to go bowling. I hadn't been bowling in a while, so my game was way off. Compared with the rest of us, Jace was a bowling shark and was the only person to bowl over 100 both games that he rolled.

After that we dined at Chuy's. Walking up Mt. Bonnell after Chuy's probably isn't the best idea, but we did so and saw Austin from it's highest hill. It really is quite the sight. Looking out one direction you see the downtown all lit up. When you look the opposite direction, you see this huge lit up structure on top of the hill in the distance. That lit up structure turns out to be Michael Dell's house. I swear, that dude must live in some kind of mini-mall or something.

Before Jace and Ryan headed back up to Denton on Sunday, we managed to see the movie that we intended to see the night before. In case you're wondering, "Failure to Launch" was about what you'd expect from a Romantic Comedy released in March. Funny in bits, romantic in bits, but hardly memorable.

After Jace and Ryan headed back up to Denton, I saw in my inbox that my friend Joseph and his wife Ivy were going to be in San Antonio for a couple days. In case you don't know, Joe Hewitt was one of my really good friends from my Marine Days. He teaches middle school band in a small town in East Texas (near Tyler), and was going to be in San Antonio visiting the inlaws...with their month old son Corgan.

So Anya and I made a trip down to San Antonio to see both the Hewitts and Anya's family. It was really great catching up with Hewitt. It had been six years since we saw each other, but it didn't seem like it had been that long based off how we caught up with one another. It was just like old times.

They have a beautiful little boy named Corgan. I got to hold him for a bit before we all went out to dinner. I expressed my sympathies to him for him having to put up with his dad as he grows up. With a little luck, he'll turn out normal. At least as normal as a kid can be having Joe Hewitt as his poppa. I kid, I kid.

After coming back up to Austin the next evening, Anya and I prepared the apartment for the arrival of Rochelle who was going to be in town looking at apartments for her impending move down here to Austin.

I can't say that looking for apartments is my favorite task in the world, but I didn't mind being the chauffer has Anya and Rochelle looked at good places. It gave me a chance to catch up on some talk radio...of the sports radio and Air America variety.

We also managed to hang out and have a good time while Rochelle was here. This mainly consisted of trips to Chuy's and trips to the Alamo Drafthouse, where we saw "V for Vendetta." It was a phenomenal movie, but I'll review that at a later time. We did a lot of catching up and pre-planning for when she moves down here to A-town.

That's about it. Sorry it wasn't very in-depth or humorous, but hopefully it served its purpose of catching all you wonder people up and what I've been up to.

more to come later...

matt out
