The Da Vince Code mini-review

I wonder if I would have liked "The Da Vinci Code" more had I not seen all of the documentaries that the Discovery Channel, TLC, and the National Geographic Channel aired, all of which basically saying that there is almost certainly no such thing as a Da Vinci Code. I wonder if I would have been able to invest more heavily in the movie had I not known that the Priory de Scion and Opus Dei were basically creations of fiction, at least fiction in how they were portrayed in the movie. To answer my own questions, I doubt I would have.

The movie felt very bland and boring to me. There is very little character development with any of the characters in the movie. We know that Tom Hanks is afraid of closed in areas and that he's a Harvard professor, but not much else. We know that Ian McKellan is an academic from England and that he sees himself as a Knight on the quest for the grail, but we don't learn much else about him. We learn little bits and pieces of different characters, but we never really fully understand many of their motivations.

A more appropriate title for this movie would be "The Da Vinci Exposition" since it seemed like most of the movie was spent breaking down what was going on for the audience. I swear, this movie cut to so many flashbacks with voice-over narration that I felt I was reading a book. I haven't read the source material, but I've read from many people that it seems Ron Howard tried to adapt the movie too faithfully to the book.

There were some good moments here and there, but a lot of the movie seemed very non-sensical to me.

Ya know...I don't think I'm going to continue this review. The movie was very bland, not well directed, pseudo intellectual, largely forgettable, and about as subtle as jackhammer dental surgery.

blah blah blah.
