letter Twenty-Five to my Muffin

Hello, me Muffin!

Oh, not much longer, now, my little biscuit…just a few days! Mama is getting ready, and I know she’s a little nervous about the route you’re taking to get here. To be honest, I’m a little nervous, too. It seems like we’ve been waiting so long for you to arrive, and now that you’re knocking at the door, it’s so exciting!

I won’t lie to you, Muffin darling, there’s a bit of sadness mixed in with the excitement. I’m sure you know why – I just know you’ve been hanging out in the hallway chatting it up with your Great-Grammy . Your Noni thinks of her constantly, and I miss her very much. I’ve picked up the phone untold number of times, to call her and tell her the latest developments, only to close it gently. But just because I can’t talk to her like I used to doesn’t mean I don’t still talk to her. I know in some way she hears me, and I can feel her all around. I bet she’s got some pom-poms and is just cheering like crazy. Heh.

Your daddy has told you to wait until his vacation, and if you can, it would be very thoughtful of you to wait. Now, I know you don’t have a whole lot of control over this, but do what you can, will you, my little dumpling? It would make him very happy, and he’s a good daddy and deserves to be happy. You’ll rack up a lot of brownie points, and it’s a good idea to have a bank of them. Not that I think of you as a mischievous little monkey, but I have a feeling you might go through a few brownie points before you even reach your first birthday. Oh, don’t give your Noni the puppy dog eyes – you know what I say is true. I love you for it, and I’m already giggling on the inside. I can’t wait to hear how you drive your Mama and MackDaddy nutz – I might even have some suggestions. I may have to borrow some of your brownie points, me darlin’ one, and I’ll share with you what I have. Sound like a plan? Good – let’s shake. : )

You have quite a fan club waiting on you, Muffin. So many lovely aunties and uncles, and plenty of cousins. They’re all as excited as we are, and I just want you to know in spite of recent events (which you’re way too little to know about now, and actually, I don’t think you need to know at all) you will be welcomed with lots of love, open hearts and loving arms. Isn’t that a fine way to enter the world? I think so, too. Not to worry, my little popkin, you have picked the most wonderful parents, you already have fabulous friends, and remember when I told you the Universe takes care of its own? You are a very special little boy, and I’m sure the Universe will make sure to take special care of you.

Rest up, little man. You have quite a journey ahead of you, and it might be a bit stressful. Just know that there has never been a more loved baby than you – and I can’t wait to prove it to you when you get here.

Please hug and kiss Great-Grammy for me, and tell her I’m okay. And tell her I hate it when she’s right. She’ll understand.

Love you, my poppet.
