Pneumonia Weather

Today we experienced what my grandfathers called "pneumonia weather." The sun was hot, hot enough to make you sweat if you undertook any physically demanding task. But the wind was knife-edge cold, and drying sweat (excuse me, perspiration) could bring a chill quick as death.

It was the kind of weather that you wore a tee shirt and carried a jacket; one minute you'd be baking in the hot sun and a minute later a big black cloud would loom between you and the sun, and the shaded cold wind that sprang up made you don your jacket. It couldn't make up its mind today: is it spring or is it winter?
