sjrozan I'm a writer, at work on my 11th book. This blog is a record of random and less-random thoughts. If you want to know more about me, check my website, linked here. I also had a blog going from spring through late fall 2004 about the publishing process for my 9th book, ABSENT FRIENDS. That blog's called "Progress" and you can find the link here. I won't make any more entries but I'm leaving it up in case anyone's interested; the process is more or less the same from book to book. |

2004-04-19 10:12 AM The last meeting Went to my last site meeting at Shepard Hall, the enormous historic restoration job I've been managing for 10 years. The job was started 6 years before I was put on it and has another 4 to go. (It would have taken less time, obviously, to do it all at once, but the building is so huge and the work so extensive that the state legislature couldn't commit that much money to a single CUNY campus in any one year. So it's been phased.) Every Thursday morning for 10 years, every season, any weather, I was up there. Weird feeling to be there for the last time. That's a little overdramatic, because I promised my boss I'd come back and write the final set of specs for the final phase, whenever the legislature votes the money. But I won't be part of the ongoing process then, I'll be an outsider. I know this leaving the day job thing was my idea and I know it's the right idea. But it's still a weird feeling.
