me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Snow!

Well, for Pete's sake! Woke up ridiculously early as usual on a Sunday to go play basketball and here I find it's snowing! I barely registered last night that they predicted snow overnight and then a general mess throughout the day, but I figured that meant the mess for here in the city and snow for those legendary 'higher elevations.' (To which we all aspire, I'm sure.) But no! It's been coming down for awhile, thinly, and what we have is one of those elegant snowfalls that lays down a white coat on every horizontal and diagonal surface, but isn't sticking to vertical surfaces at all. So the tops of each tree branch and leaf, but not the vertical twigs or treetrunks; the slats, rails, and steps of the fire escapes, but not the uprights; the rooflines and the tops of each piece of rooftop equipment, every roof vent and chimney; and of course the backyards: they're all covered in a fresh white coat, and all the vertical surfaces are dark and damp, as if to show the white off better.

Of course, I say this with delight now, but talk to me in a few minutes, after I go out to slog my way to the gym.
