me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Finally, snow

This is what we had for winter when I was a kid in the Bronx. Snow -- not slush, sleet, or freezing yuck -- steadily falling from a windless sky. 4" already when I went out this morning. Not very cold, and without the wind, tempting and easy to walk around. Sky dark gray, water dark green. Pair of mallards taking advantage of high tide and swells from ferry wakes to grab at moss on the tops of pilings. (They take advantage of low tide, too, to rip barnacles from area usually below the surface. They may just be dopey birds but they like a varied diet.) Delighted dogs nosing snow over their shoulders. Some moms and kids, and one clever nanny standing in the shelter of her building's doorway while her charges, a boy and a girl, each assiduously excavated a raised treepit and molded the snow with buckets and cups as if they had a pair of private sandboxes.
