me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Goslings, we got goslings

They're already about 3 weeks old, too. Big and robust. Urban Naturalist alerted me to them yesterday, telling me they were up by the Sanitation Pier, and today I went up in that direction and there they were, sleeping on the rocky beach. We'd suspected they were in the offing, because a single goose had been swimming back and forth out at the end of the pier, chasing off other geese, so we decided that was Guardian Goose and his mate was nesting. Didn't know she'd produced already, though. Go geese! Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde the Clueless Gadwall have been paddling about and sleeping on the pilings close to the nesting spot she's been successful at for the last two years. They're waiting for the grass to grow. The spot's in a patch of tall grass right off the intersection of the bicycle path and the pedestrian entrance. It's an unlikely place for a quiet nest. But it worked twice already, so she's not giving it up. Go ducks!
