me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Quick river bird report

Five new buffleheads -- four males and a female -- have arrived, were breakfasting like mad out at the end of the piling field yesterday. Still some mallards around; if the food holds out, they might stay. Saw a female Gadwall a few days ago, quacking as she swam, which might mean she was looking for the mate she proably came down with. Yesterday, two American black ducks, snoozing on the waves. Urban Naturalist told me he'd seen them days ago. They fly through here on their way south, but never stay. This is a long rest stop for them. And finally, I created a major seagull event when I took some stale bread down to the river. Dozens of birds screeching and hovering! Catching pieces in the air! Why doesn't anyone use gulls instead of doves in the circus?

Happy Thanksgiving, youse guys!
