me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

Mongolia: But when there IS water...

...you can camp beside it
our first campsite

cross it
our jeep fording the stream

hang out and let your engine cool
waiting for the motorcycle engine to cool before crossing the icy stream

take a walk
going for a stroll

unless the water's frozen in a glacier
glacier at the five sacred peaks of the altai mountain range

or racing out of one
stream pours down from the glacier

you can try unsuccessfully to stay dry
miserable rainy morning

but sometimes there's a rainbow
rainbow

or mist on the mountain
mist on the mountain

or in the valley
mist in the valley

you might have to help your stuck friends
our van made it through this!

guides remove tourists from stuck van

guides remove tourists from stuck van

and then push
tourist van -- not ours! -- stuck in the stream

but sometimes you can just stand back and admire it
river far below
