me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

I'm back

Where have I been? Nowhere, actually. Here's what happened: a friend of mine died. Suddenly and unexpectedly. I'm not telling you this to get sympathy. God knows I'm not the one who needs that, that's her family. But it threw me. I couldn't be articulate, cheery, or wry for awhile. Even contemplative or philosophical. I found I could post about BLOOD OF THE LAMB, because that's business, sort of. Besides, the nice thing about being half of Sam Cabot is, it's as though it's not really me. And I could write haiku, because they're of the moment and the point is, nothing intrudes. Normal blog posts, though, were beyond me. Yeah, yeah, okay, they always have been. Wise guys. You know what I mean. But now I'm back. I'm getting used to it; we all are. And so as a prelude to the resumption of what pass for normal blog posts, for me, I give you JP Schlegelmilch playing "Strawberry Fields Forever" in Bryant Park.
