me in the piazza

I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us!

I love New York

Five kayaks, a canoe, a paddleboard, a water taxi, a sailboat, a barge-and-tug, a police boat, and three fast motorboats, one of them playing meringue music, all right in front of me on the water.

Four geese on the lawn, three nibbling, one standing straight and staring down an English Pointer who's rigid, locating them for her owner. The dog looks to the geese, to the owner, to the geese, back to the owner. Owner's staring right at the geese. Good, he's noticed. Dog stands down and sniffs the sidewalk, pees on the lamppost.

Young woman doing a dance routine on the walkway. About two minutes long. She finishes, plops down on the bench, picks up her laptop. Speaks seriously, asks questions, nods. Sets the laptop down, adjusts its angle, steps away, runs through the routine again. Comes back to the bench and speaks to the laptop. Her teacher, who's been watching via Skype, gives her a new batch of notes.

I love New York.
