I can relate to this post .. I was always fishing through my stacks of books (usually from Scholastic) to give my elementary school friends their Christmas gifts. Why didn't my mom just take me to ToysRUs like the other mom's did?

I blame the loss of one sixth-grade friendship in particular on my apparent mistake of giving a shoe-box of Judy Blume books (some of my favorites) to a church girlfriend. Never heard from her again. Since our friendship mainly consisted of writing notes passed underneath Sunday School tables, in retrospect, it was no big loss. At the time, however, it was herculean.
