Clotheshorse Wars: Fayetteville vs. Tulsa

~from Ami

So I'm picking out an outfit to wear to see my man, Edwin McCain, perform at the Arkansas Music Pavilion in Fayetteville this weekend. Brett asks me aren't I going to be overdressed in a skirt? Ha!

Fayetteville, home to University of Arkansas, has the dressiest girls in the world, hands down. I'm used to Tulsa, where the girls in the mall are usually wearing sweat pants, flip flops, and undersized t-shirts complete with naughty sayings. In Fayetteville, everyone tries and they try hard. Why such a difference? Tulsa has the classy TU, and you'd think in a city this size everyone would be wearing the latest fashions at all times. But it's just not true.

I can remember when I was at the U of A, the out-of-state transfers were aghast at the Girly Girls running loose on campus. What was up with these painted fingernails and false eyelashes and plunging necklines at 7:30 am classes?

I don't know the answer. Let me just say I compromised by wearing capris and a dressy t-shirt to the concert, and was grossly outnumbered by high heels, Olson twin sunglasses (indoors!), sequined tops, and platinum blonde up-do's.

Edwin rocked the house- I don't think Arkansas is quite appreciative enough of this South Carolina singer's mind-numbing talent yet. Hootie and the Blowfish got much more stage time and they did a great job - I'll forgive Hootie for the Burger King commercial, I guess.

Going back to the closet,
Ami
