Doing the Numbers

I usually keep track of my daily word counts and occasionally I keep track of time spent editing stories. The latter I don't think of as a particularly useful metric, since it varies wildly between stories, but I do think the daily word count is a useful measure of progress. Without further ado, here's what some of the numbers look like as of today:

2003 Word count:63,670
2002 Word count: 33,647
Total submissions:10
Total acceptances:0
Total rejections:9
Waiting for response:1

It looks like I've been a bit more productive this year :) There's still plenty of room for improvement though. I tend to write in bursts, so a more consistent effort would certainly help the numbers.

I should also point out that the word count figures do not include words updated during editing - that just seems too difficult to tally-up. I have also excluded all the critiques I've written (mostly for Critters stories, of which I've done a few dozen critiques). What's left are just the raw word counts for fiction.

What now, then? I intend to provide updated word counts with my journal entries, and if I leave them out you can just assume I've been lazy and/or busy :)
