Today we went on our usual road trip, this time to a farm museum near Byron, IL. We had a picnic across the street, then checked out the museum. The displays in the house were the most interesting, showing how people lived back in the 1800s, and around the back was a working windmill and a couple of barns. I was surprised to see a golf course behind the museum where once there would've been farmland. That's progress for you :)

We also went to Lowden State park to check out the huge concrete Native American statue overlooking the Rock River. That was very impressive - we were even able to see it from the other side of the river on the drive back. While we were there we did some hiking and soaked up the spectacular fall colours. Not too long now and all the leaves will be gone!

Driving through the main street of Byron, we noticed a large concentration of bikers and bikes near a road that was blocked off. The signs out front told us that a rather unusual festival was being held there - one where eating a certain part of a turkey was the primary attraction! You can find out all about it here. A word of warning - don't click on the link if you've just eaten dinner or are easily offended ;) I don't know whether to feel amused or disturbed...

On the way home, we stopped off at an apple orchard and had some doughnuts and apple cider. It seems like this is becoming a tradition for us :)

I can't see myself getting much writing done this weekend - tomorrow I want to watch another movie we rented (Mulholland Drive) and I'll probably do some reading too. There'll be time enough for writing come winter!
