What a mis-steak!

Last night we found out that the French/Italian restaurant we were planning on visiting was closed on Sundays. Thankfully we found that out before leaving the house!

We ended up going to a local steakhouse instead and were not impressed by that place at all! Rather than me ranting I'll just summarize: they had poor quality, overpriced food, they charred everything (Carrie had to ask for another steak), and we came away with mild food poisoning to boot. I also read online that the owners are being investigated for fraud, so that place may not be open for too much longer anyway. We should've gone to Lone Star instead. The night wasn't all bad - we had some birthday cake when we got home. Happy Birthday to me! (today, that is) :)

On another note, we watched About Schmidt yesterday afternoon and were very impressed! I'm surprised it didn't win any Academy Awards, but it had some decent competition.

Jack Nicholson delivers an astounding performance as Warren Schmidt, a man who is entering retirement after many years working for Woodmen insurance. It is not a happy retirement, and at times it seems as if the only thing keeping him going is writing letters to a child in Africa. To add to his troubles, his daughter is soon to be married and Warren is not at all happy about it.

About Schmidt is often sad, but still manages to deliver some light-hearted moments from time to time. The acting is excellent throughout, as is the cinematography. If you're in the mood for a good drama, you can't go wrong with About Schmidt.
